Purpose & Scope

Little Light Art is the wellbeing and community arm of Sculpt Happy Studio — a gentle, creative space where people of all ages can explore clay, imagination, and connection in a safe and supportive environment.

All sessions are delivered by Sara Garth, a qualified teacher with over 20 years’ experience, trauma‑aware practice, and an up‑to‑date enhanced DBS check.

This safeguarding policy exists to:

  • protect children, young people, and vulnerable adults who take part in Little Light Art sessions

  • provide parents, carers, and partner organisations with clear information about our safeguarding approach

  • ensure that all creative activities are delivered safely, respectfully, and inclusively

Legal Framework

This policy is informed by current UK legislation and guidance, including Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) and NSPCC best practice. More information is available at www.nspcc.org.uk/safeguarding.

Our Commitment

We believe that:

  • Children and young people should never experience abuse of any kind

  • The welfare of the child is paramount

  • All children, regardless of background or identity, have the right to equal protection from harm

  • Working in partnership with families is essential to keeping children safe

We seek to keep children safe by:

  • Valuing, listening to, and respecting each child

  • Providing clear health & safety guidance and supervision during all sessions

  • Maintaining a safe, inclusive, and anti-bullying environment

  • Ensuring all photography and filming is consented to and used appropriately

  • Responding promptly to any concerns raised by children, parents, or carers

  • Storing personal information securely and professionally

  • Referring to external agencies if a safeguarding concern arises

Home-Based Setting

Sessions take place in Sara’s cosy home studio — a dedicated creative space set up in her dining area. While this is not a separate commercial premises, it is arranged with care to ensure comfort, safety, and accessibility.

Personal accident and public liability insurance is in place for all sessions. Business insurance for home use is not currently active, and parents are informed of this in advance.

Data Protection & Privacy

We collect personal data (e.g. consent forms, emergency contacts, medical info) to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children during sessions. This data is:

  • Stored securely and never shared with third parties

  • Used only for safeguarding, communication, and session safety

  • Retained for up to 12 months unless otherwise required

  • Available for parents to view, update, or request deletion at any time

Photography and video content is only captured with written consent and used for promotional purposes (e.g. website, social media, flyers). Parents may withdraw consent at any time.

Behaviour & Communication

Children are supported to follow simple behaviour and safety guidance during sessions. Kindness, listening, and safe tool use are encouraged. Parents are welcome to raise concerns or complaints directly with Sara, who will respond with care and professionalism.

Safeguarding Lead

Sara Garth is the sole facilitator and designated safeguarding lead.
